Overview
SPS Commerce is a cloud-based supply chain platform centered on Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and trading partner connectivity. It is used by over 50,000 subscribing customers, including retailers, suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, grocers, and logistics providers. The platform is particularly established in the retail supply chain, where EDI compliance with trading partners is a core requirement for doing business.
The most logistics-relevant capabilities in SPS Commerce revolve around automated document exchange between trading partners. The platform handles standard EDI transactions including purchase orders (850), purchase order acknowledgments (855), advance ship notices (856), invoices (810), and inventory advisories (846). SPS Commerce also offers item data management, vendor scorecarding, and sales and inventory analytics. For retailers and distributors, the platform provides tools for vendor onboarding, order automation, and inventory visibility across the supplier community.
Logistics teams commonly rely on SPS Commerce as a source of inbound purchase orders from retail customers, as well as a channel for transmitting shipment notifications and invoices. Because SPS Commerce connects to a broad network of trading partners and integrates with many ERP, WMS, and accounting systems, it frequently serves as the hub through which order data flows between a company's internal systems and its external trading partners.
