Overview
Microsoft Dynamics 365 is a cloud-based ERP platform from Microsoft, used primarily by mid-sized to large enterprises across manufacturing, distribution, retail, and professional services. It is modular by design, meaning companies can adopt specific applications — such as Finance, Supply Chain Management, or Sales — based on their needs, and expand over time.
For logistics and supply chain teams, the most relevant modules include Supply Chain Management, which covers sales order processing, purchase order management, procurement, inventory management, warehouse operations, and demand planning. The platform supports material requirements planning (MRP), demand forecasting using historical and seasonal data, and multi-site inventory tracking. Warehouse management features include bin-level tracking, wave management, and RF-device-directed picking and putaway.
Logistics teams typically rely on Dynamics 365 as a source of sales orders, purchase orders, transfer orders, inventory positions across locations, and demand plans. Its order management and pricing module handles the full order-to-fulfillment lifecycle, while procurement and sourcing manages vendor relationships and purchasing workflows. The system also supports available-to-promise checks and production scheduling, making it a common backbone for complex, multi-location supply chains.
